is used to show:
A- A Prediction
– When the speaker is making a prediction (a statement about something she/ he
thinks will be true or will occur in the future.
e.g.: According
to the weather report, it will be
cloudy tomorrow.
e.g.: Be
careful! You’ll hurt yourself!
e.g.: I
will be 21 years old next year.
B- The Willingness - The speaking is saying: “I am willing, I am
happy to do.” He is not making a prediction. He has made no prior plan to do
things.
e.g.: A: The
phone is ringing.
B: I’ll get it.
e.g.: A: I
don’t understand this problem.
B: Ask
your teacher about it. She’ll help
you.
2- be going to + infinitive + ...
is used to show:
A- A Prediction
– when the speaker is making a prediction (a statement about something she / he
thinks will be true or will occur in the future.
e.g.: According to the weather report,
it is going to be cloudy tomorrow.
e.g.: Watch out! You’re going to hurt yourself!
B- A Prior plan
– When speaker is expressing a prior plan (something the speaker intends to do
in the future because in the past she / he has made a plan or decision to do
it.)
e.g.: A: Why
did you buy this paint?
B: I’m
going to paint my bedroom tomorrow.
Note: be
going to in speech is often pronounced “gonna”
Present simple + Time Expression of the future +...
is used:
- For a planned future or series of actions,
particularly when they refer to a journey. Travel agent uses it a good deal.
e.g.: We leave London at 10.00 next Tuesday and
arrive in Paris at 13.00. We spend two hours in Paris and leave again at 15.00.
We arrive in Rome at 19.30, spend four in Rome etc.
4- Present Continuous + Time Expression of the future +...
is used:
-
For a definite arrangement in the near future ( the
most usual way of expression one’s immediate plans.)
e.g.: I’m meeting Peter tonight. He is taking me to theatre.
e.g.: Are you doing anything tomorrow afternoon? – Yes, I’m playing
tennis with Ann
5- Will / shall + be + verb –ing form +...
is used:
-
For an activity that will be in progress at a time in
the future.
e.g.: I will begin to
study at seven. You will come at eight. I will be studying when you come.
6- Will / shall + have + Past Participle +...
is used:
-For an activity that will be completed before another time
or event in the future.
e.g.: I
will graduate in June. I will see you in July. By the next time I see you, I
will have graduated.
e.g.: I will have finished my home work
